Dear non-Black Muslims, stop hiding behind the Qur’an, the Sunnah and Bilal (Radhiallahu ‘anhu / May God Be Pleased With Him)

Farafinna

jenneAs-salam ‘alaykum. Yes, on top of being Black and a woman I am Muslim. Couldn’t get any better.

Most of my family and friends are Black African Muslims so to me being Black and Muslim is the most common and normal thing in the world. When I went to the UK, however, I noticed that it wasn’t the same for everybody. Many Muslims in Great Britain are of Arab or South-Asian descent, so-called Brown people or non-Black POC. Although we share common experiences due to White supremacy, they can too perpetrate anti-Blackness and Afrophobia.

Being in England was an eye-opening experience and it was the first time in my life that I found myself in a big Muslim community. Before that I only shared my faith with my family and close friends.

At first I was happy that so many Muslims were around me but very soon I realised that…

Lynna's Life

12656062_10207239104869391_349438255_o This is the picture that tells the story.  My car rolled over and over after it left the road above and ended right-side up against a tree 500 feet below.

Last Saturday Maritza and I met with one of my rescuers.  I blogged earlier about how excited I was to finally meet one of the true heroes of my life and how much I wanted to hug him and look him in the eyes and say thank you.  He had so many more little details to fill me in on with regards to that frigid New Year’s Eve morning.  He shared this picture that was on his phone and I was able to connect a little bit better with the events of that previous night.  This picture was taken on that same day that I was discovered.  The roadway eventually made a big left U curve as it meandered through…

A New Start

Lynna's Life

The next few posts are going to go back to the cross-country move that Mark and I undertook which took us to our sunny and warm new home.  I hope that you enjoy hearing about it and as we did living it.  First off, here’s a little background which precipitated the changes.

We had thought about moving away from the little town of Silver City, New Mexico and we both knew that this was just a temporary home for the two of us.  It all was confirmed when we made a holiday visit to see Mark’s family in south Florida.  When we got to Mark’s sister’s house in Miami we were greeted warmly by both her and her partner. They opened up their home to us and made us feel so welcome.  They had even planned for us to go to a Christmas party with them at a really cool…

What can I say but what a place?!!  Mark (yes Mark, not Maritza) and I seriously walked around our new digs literally with our jaws dropped and absolutely breathless at where the Universe has placed us.  I can honestly say that we visualized all of this for ourselves.  How can the secret to happiness be so simple and yet so complicated for the vast majority of folks?  I am saying that as a former doubter myself.

What I have learned through all of my life since transitioning back in the winter of 2013 is that I can never limit the Universe and what it can do.  If you can think it, you can literally achieve it.  It really is that simple because we are all truly not just human but we are creator gods ourselves.  I know, sounds crazy for some of you seasoned Christians.  I was like you for…

MarkAngelo: The Search For Truth

It seems like forever since I last wrote a blog. I am happy to report that after much searching and hitting several brick walls, Lynna and I finally found a place to call our home. I am originally from Florida, but since the last 2 years I have been away, so much has changed, and that includes the rental situations. The soaring prices and scams made it almost impossible to rent a place, we ended up staying in hotels paying exuberant prices in areas that were less than acceptable and found ourselves almost rethinking our move.

For starters we had to rent a storage to place our belongings in fear of having our car vandalized and after a typical down pore and weather system, our little Trixie (we named our car I know, lol)  got soaked due to the compromised rubber seals from the carrier we had placed on her…

A Dream I Had Last Night

Lynna's Life

Hi everyone, I have so much to share about what has happened since I last wrote my thoughts for all of you to read here.  OMG, lots has happened since then and I have so many stories and experiences to share with you all about that but I am going to have to hold off on that for now.  Why, you ask?  Well, simply because I had a dream last night.

You all know how that goes when you have a dream that is crystal clear and so life-like that you wonder if it just happened when you leave it?  Last night was one of those times and this particular dream impacted me in a powerful way.  First off, I have to tell you that lately I have been dreaming like Joseph from the Old Testament bible story.  He was labeled a dreamer by his 10 other brothers because he…

Silver City Memories

Lynna's Life

One day left, that is all that is left of my stint in Silver City, New Mexico.  It seems like only yesterday that I was brought here by Maritza.  It had only been a couple of weeks before that day that I was even introduced to her through a friend on YouTube.  She stole my heart from the first hello and I knew then over the phone that my life would never be the same.  It was because of her that I was able to meet this wonderful little town.

12240120_419840678201525_4199382646026186260_n

So there I was, traveling in a stranger’s car, a kind-hearted trans woman who had offered to take Maritza to the hospital that I was staying at which was four hours away in El Paso, Texas.  There I was in a body brace and neck brace, sitting kind of crumpled up in the front seat as Maritza cradled my head…
